and five o’clock is cocktail time, no? At least it was in the fifties and in my heart, I do live in the fifties…mostly for the fashion. My womanly curves would look *so* good in fifties fashions. Those full skirts with the nipped in waists and the high, fitted busts- swoon. But this is a food blog, not a fashion blog so I want to tell you about my favorite summer cocktail. The Vodka Amaretto Sour. Sure there are times I like to puree fruit, muddle herbs and get inventive but most of the time I want to be satisfied quickly. (Get your minds out of the gutter!) The Vodka Amaretto Sour is a perfect cocktail because aside from it showcasing my favorite flavor combination; sweetly tart, of course; I almost always have the ingredients for it on hand. Vodka, Amaretto and lemon. Fresh lemons are a pantry staple in my house and should be in everyone’s, in my opinion.
Vodka Amaretto Sour
Combine 1 ounce Vodka, 2 ounces Amaretto and squeeze in the juice of one whole lemon. Stir or shake and pour into a cup with lots of ice. Enjoy responsibly, as they say in those ridiculous Amaretto DiSaronno ads. Only it’s probably not advisable to teach your children to mix your sours as my Nana taught me to mix her Screwdrivers back in the 80’s. Oh, the 80’s, they were wild! In Nana’s defense, she was busy playing poker and I didn’t mind serving drinks- I made crazy tips!
